Is it possible to connect a blue river and brown brick buildings into a single fashion space? The River Cervo, of glacial origin, has powered the water infrastructure of Biella’s proto-textile industry for centuries. “One Carpet” links the River Cervo with the existing building. “Azzurro” (literally, “azure”) is Italy’s national color. Since the 20th century—though its use dates back to 1366, when it appeared on the Crusades flag—“Azzurro” has been adopted as the official sportswear color of the Italian national team.
In the outdoor space of Cittadellarte, the Azzurro Carpet reflects the “Azzurro e Marrone” fashion code, long favored by stylish Italian men, alongside the existing brown brick building. Upon entering the exhibition space along the Azzurro carpet, visitors first encounter a primitive woolen fabric while viewing the River Cervo to the right. As the path gradually transitions into the mirrored wall, the river view recedes, and visitors experience a four-stage textile production process.
The temporary exhibition space can be tailored to various user needs while minimizing interference with views of the River Cervo. When no exhibition is installed, the carpet wraps around the spool, allowing large-scale activities to take place along the main axis toward the educational space. Educational programs are visually connected to the exterior through the glass facade.
